Welcome to the Amateur Family History Podcast – a homemade podcast about the practicalities of family history research in the UK. It was created to allow you to take a bit of genealogy with you on your commute, long journey, or just a walk in the park.
Launched towards the end of 2018, I’ll be adding episodes on an ‘informal’ basis, and the early podcasts in the series cover the basics of family history research, with practical advice on how to go about building your family tree.
The podcast is presented and produced by me – Andy Holmes – a former broadcaster and News Editor, and now, a Director in an IT company. I’ve been researching my family history for several years, and this is the podcast that I really wanted when I was starting out. I’ve managed to find some fascinating information over the years, and I’ll cover some of these, along with how I found them, in the podcast series.
In later episodes, I’m hoping to cover more advanced topics and discuss other areas of genealogy – but this is only possible with your help and involvement. If you’d like to get involved, please email me via the contact page and we can have a chat. I’d be especially interested in hearing from you if you’re experienced in DNA/genetic genealogy.
Thanks for reading – and for listening! I hope you enjoy the podcasts. They are a little experiment of mine, which I’m hoping will be of use to those embarking on the family history journey – as well as more experienced researchers, who will get in touch and help me shape future episodes.
Hope to hear from you soon.
